Since 1997, Sony BCT-HD Series HDCAM tape has been the workhorse of HD production. Metal Particles, some 50% smaller than the ones used in Digital Betacam tape, capture wavelengths as small as 0.49µm, one 1/200 the thickness of a human hair. Even at these microscopic wavelengths, carrier-to-noise ratio is greater than 45 dB for robust HD recording. The Sony BCT-12HD Small Shell HDCAM Videocassette provides 12 minutes of recording time in 60i frame rate mode.
